Flat in Notting HillLondon2014

CMK’s conversion of an apartment within a modernist building designed by Maxwell Fry with Walter Gropius, completed in 1938, is centred on underlining the clarity and economy of the space. The block of 17 flats is a strong and elegant example of English Modernism, demonstrated in its light and airy structure. The aim of the conversion was to bring out the original design’s starkness and simplify both the plan and details, through its open yet defined spaces. The materials were selected from a reductive palette in fulfilment of the aim of focusing on space and light.
