Concrete Geometries Architectural AssociationLondon2011

A white platform was built into the Front Members’ Room of the Architectural Association to simultaneously block and open it up. This artistic intervention, an installation in itself, was created in collaboration with artist Fran Cottell in the context of the research project 'Concrete Geometries’ at the AA School. The platform took its levels, pattern and configuration from two different sets of elements and activities: the site: the architecture of a period room with its own features and decorations formally, structured through the geometric elements it retraced: an oval, an astroid and circle segments; and its definite and possible usages: the presentation, display and dissemination of work through viewing, talking, circulating, meeting and debate, and its use as an everyday social space.
