Ministry of Sound IILondon2015

CMK’s competition entry for a new-build headquarters building for the renowned entertainment and multimedia business Ministry of Sound was comprised of a nightclub, performance and exhibition spaces, recording studios, restaurant and offices. The spatial organisation focused on connectivity and separation to support the complex activities of the client.

The volume of the building is clearly expressed in its block-shaped components. The total area consists of 6,500m2 of internal space, including 3,100m2 of club space, 2.500m2 of offices and recording and ancillary spaces, organised across seven storeys.

The project is situated within a larger housing and mixed-use scheme in Southwark in south London. The external facade makes an impression of substance, suggesting the open and closed nature of the spaces overall, with a powerful focus on pathways and entry mechanisms.
