The design for Céline’s Runway Show for Paris Fashion Week 2013 inserted a temporary structure into the Tennis Club de Paris. This new space was rotated against the found space – itself further registered in the new ceiling design – creating a sense of tension. A new floor, two walls and a low ceiling suspended from the 13m-high vaulted space demarcated a ‘field’ that was shared between models and audience, dissolving the traditional division between catwalk and audience. Overlaid geometries referred both to the shared ‘field’ and to the existing larger space. Tightly packed seating was broken into small units and scattered throughout, creating ‘alleys’ and ‘squares’ through which the models meandered in close proximity to the viewing public. The restrained material palette of self-coloured and raw materials such as concrete, plaster board, solid timber blocks and felt complemented the luxurious fashion on display.
