Céline Concept Store Mount StreetLondon2014

The design for the Mount Street Concept Store extended the spatial and material attitudes developed by CMK together with creative director Phoebe Philo for the runway shows, now evolved into a full store that would act as a blueprint for the worldwide store concept.

The store was structured into a suite of intimate spaces using walls rotated against the grid of the existing building and in dialogue with it. The resulting spaces had complex geometries laid out diagonally around a central vestibule and unified overhead with a system of illuminated rafts. The concept utilises spatial and material juxtapositions and employs a mix of raw and refined materials. The distinct marble floor - a type of parquet- is made from eight kinds of stones interlaced with handmade glass and semi-precious stones. Containing 5000 individually placed pieces, varying hues and intensities are created across the space. This vivid surface is set against concrete, stone, render, steel and resin surfaces. Danish artist FOS created a series of bespoke furniture and fixtures, including a concrete bench, floor lamps, chandelier, steel table and free-standing mirrors.
